The Premises for Building a Lasting Peace Based on Christian Values
Promoting a lasting peace is one of the main concerns of contemporary society. History shows us that the multitude of peace treaties could not prevent the recurrence of wars and conflicts. Human nature is directed towards conflict, and the numerous negative consequences of wars lead us to reflect in order to identify solutions that cannot only establish peace but also sustain it over time. Military conflicts are present even today, and despite the numerous promises of world leaders, we see that peace cannot be achieved through simple declarations – there is a need to find effective strategies and apply them. Christian values, as reflected in the teachings of Holy Scripture, offer a real alternative for achieving lasting peace. Among the values that contribute to transforming a state of conflict into a climate of peace, we can mention: love, forgiveness, reconciliation, humility, compassion, and justice. These values have the potential to bring about deep inner transformation, healing the wounds of the past. Without genuine reconciliation and love for one another, attempts to make peace are nothing more than brief pauses in the conflict. The approach proposed here emphasizes inner change as being essential for lasting peace, bringing a new perspective to those involved in conflict.
