The Mystery of Man in the Light of the Logos: The Christological, Cosmological and Theandric Vision of Human Nature in Saint Maximus the Confessor.
This study carries out a doctrinal analysis of human nature created in the image of God, in the context of a complex theological synthesis that integrates Christology, cosmology and anthropology in a unitary vision of the relationship between God, man and the world. Starting from the Christological foundation of the theology of St. Maximus, the research highlights how the mystery of the Incarnation becomes the central principle of the cosmic order and the key to interpreting all of reality. The concept of perihoresis, introduced and systematized by St. Maximus, is analyzed as an expression of the hypostatic union between the two natures of Christ and, at the same time, as an ontological model of the communion between the Creator and creation. At the same time, the doctrine of λόγοι (divine reasons) is interpreted as the foundation of a personalistic cosmology, in which each creature has its reason for being in the supreme Logos and is called to fulfillment through participation in the uncreated energies. In this perspective, man appears as a microcosm and cosmic mediator, destined to realize, through freedom and love, the communion between the created order and God. Through the correlative analysis of these concepts – Logos, perihoresis, λόγοι and theosis – the study demonstrates that the theology of St. Maximus constitutes a true metaphysics of communion, in which existence is understood as participation in the divine life, and deification represents the ontological fulfillment of human nature.
